Ten Top Tips for great story telling in early years settings

Stories, how they shape our world

The stories we hear as children help to shape our view of the world. Reading stories to children can show them far-flung places, extraordinary people and eye-opening situations to expand and enrich their world. It can also be a great way of helping them deal with real life situations that they may need help to emotionally understand.

We are delighted to have the support of Barking and Dagenham Early Years in bringing this project to our community, 'Telling Stories and Having Fun.'

Our board member Ria who has a background as a professional performer and storytelling is out in 10 childcare settings in Barking, working along side teachers, teaching assistants and nursery staff, sharing her knowledge to help them develop skills around bringing stories to life and engaging children in reading books.

Each session starts with the telling of a story and some useful tips on how to really get children involve when reading to them.

Simply put, interactive storytelling is a great way to allow children to express themselves freely and creatively in an authentic and real way.
